European Cookie Law

Is your site compliant? If not, you are risking very big troubles...

An HTTP cookie is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored on the user's computer by the web browser while the user is surfing. Cookies were designed to remember stateful information (such as products added in the shopping cart in an online store) or to record the the user's browsing activity (including clicking particular buttons, logging in, or recording which pages were visited in the past).

They can also be used to remember arbitrary pieces of information that the user previously entered into form fields such as names, addresses, passwords, and credit card numbers.

Since a few years it's mandatory to warn your visitors that your site may collect their information and preferences by using cookies.

If your site doesn't have a "Privacy and Cookie Policy" and a banner that pops-up whenever a person enters it, you may risk very high fines, especially if you have embedded 3rd party plugins like Facebook Like, Twitter, Google Adsense ads and so on. Only technical cookies are not compulsory to be noticed.
